What is a LATA? A LATA is a geographic area in which local telephone companies may provide local and toll calling services.
What is a PIC? The Primary Interexchange Carrier (PIC) is the long distance company.
What is the difference between IntraLATA and long distance telephone services? IntraLATA calls are calls that are made within your business' LATA. Long distance services include calls outside of your LATA (InterLATA) and international calls.
What is the difference between 'local calls' and 'local toll calls'? A local toll call is a call made from your home to another destination outside of your local calling area, but inside of your Local Access Transport Area (LATA). These calls are also referred to as IntraLATA calls and carry separate rates from local calls.
What's toll-free (8XX) service? Toll-free service allows people to call your number without paying any of the associated fees, including surcharges such as payphone use and toll-free directory assistance. The owner of the number absorbs all costs associated with toll-free calls. In the U.S. and Canada toll-free numbers generally begin with: 1-800, 1-888, 1-877, or 1-866.
How do I make an international call? To make a call to an international country from any part of the contiguous United States, first dial '011' plus the country code and city code of the location you're calling followed by the telephone number. If you are calling a country with the Country Code '809', simply dial '1-809-telephone number' (no need to dial '011').
